SINGING
TO THE DEAD

2025 - ongoing
SINGING TO THE DEAD is a graduation project by Marie Louise Dilmaya Bergqvist, a fine art student in the master’s program at HDK-Valand.
Through her experience as a transracial adoptee, she explores the connections between adoption, death, and the killing and taxidermy of the whale calf at the Gothenburg Natural History Museum.

The project is a collaboration with the Museum, inviting the public to experience a sound walk throughout April, culminating in a choral performance on “Val”borg,     ( Walpurgis Night), on Wednesday, April 30.

SINGING TO THE DEAD will also be featured in the fine arts master graduation show, with a vernissage on May 17 at Skeppsbron 4, the former location of "Kinesiska Muren," and will be on display until May 25.

THE NON HUMAN QUESTION

What does it mean to be human? When do we draw the line between who is human and who is not? And when do we cease to be human – and become something less or more than human?

You are warmly invited to a Listening Party at Skeppsbron 4 on Monday the 12th of May where the podcast The Non-Human Question will premiere with Swedish artist Ingela Ihrmann. Guests can look forward to an audio interview with Ingela Ihrman on the embodiment of the non-human as a way of radically imagining new potentialities for the less- and more-than-human.

The podcast is co-created by artists Marie Bergqvist, Rikke Bogetoft and Kent Grundberg as part of their artistic research on more-than-human identities, queer mythologies and ethics of care. The podcast listening will be interwoven with a conversation between the three organizing artists moderated by spatial theorist and artistic researcher Cathryn Klasto, as they discuss Ihrman’s reflections in relation to their own practices. Please join us in reflecting on the Non-Human Question.
